A grey sky, a bitter sting, a rain cloud, a crane on wing...
Name: Shinjo Kyowa
Race: Shinigami
Age: Young enough to be irreverent. Old enough to be resentful. He died at twenty-three, and has been dead for somewhere in the realm of three centuries.
Height: 175 cm
Weight: 66 kg
Hair Color: Awesome is a color, right? No? Black, then. Awesomely black.
Eye Color: Agate grey
Noticeable Features: The ever-present bit of timothy grass he chews on. Maybe the soulpatch, he's proud of his soulpatch. His long, flowing tresses aren't as distinctive as one might think, considering that everybody in Seireitei and Hueco Mundo has some sort of crazy hair or another... his is really quite tame.
Personality: Happy-go-lucky. Possibly senile, despite not being all that old in the grand scheme of things. Definitely a few prawns short of a galaxy. Kyowa commands at least a little bit of respect for his abilities, but loses a lot of that respect for the fact that he never seems to be perfectly clear on where he is, what he's doing, how he got there, or where he plans to go next. It could all be an elaborate and strategic act - which might explain why such an individual leads a division - or it could just be that he snapped some time after taking his chair. He does seem to be at his most clear-headed and lucid during meals, when he frequently opines, at great length, about the value of various styles of cooking, a subject that is apparently very near to his heart. As a leader, Kyowa is not the sort who commands loyalty so much as the sort who people follow just to see what happens. Like a train wreck in slow motion, it can be very difficult to take your eyes off of Kyowa once he gets started at something.
That he has an uncanny knack for miraculously succeeding at tasks he takes on in no way lessens the entertainment value of watching him.
Quotes:
"I like peaches, canned... what was the question?"
"My ribbon isn't effeminate! And even if it was, I like it anyway. Shut up."
Division: 7. The Iris stands for courage! Brave, brave Sir Robin!
Seat: Captain, in name at least.
Zanpakuto:
--- Name: Hakihaki. Yes, the irony is lost on him.
--- Release Phrase: "Hakihaki! Terashimashou!" Really, really lost on him.
--- Sealed: In its sealed form, Hakihaki appears as a perfectly normal tianjian, measuring some 44 inches from pommel to tip, with a narrow, flexible blade tinted slightly blue, a hilt wrapped in bright red silk, and a long red tassel on the pommel.
--- Shikai: In Shikai form, Hakihaki shifts to a whiplike length of scarlet silk ribbon, measuring some 132 inches from end to end, and 15 inches in width. It is static in length - the weapon cannot stretch or extend - but it is malleable, able to shift between sharp and soft, steel-rigid and flexible at a thought, making it a rather unpredictable tool to face off against.
--- Bankai: In Bankai form, the silk ribbon of Hakihaki's shikai form melts into something similar, but far more liquid - it appears much like a scarlet length of silk, but unlike in the shikai form, Hakihaki's length and shape are malleable and easily shifted - it can extend and contract, split into multiple sections and reform, as easily as it can shift between rigid and flexible texture and a sharp and soft edge. The most dangerous aspect of Hakihaki's bankai form comes from this highly mutable nature: the blade's form shifts and reforms nearly constantly, making it extremely difficult to follow the actual movements of the weapon.

History:
Kyowa often tells stories about his past. The veracity and truthfulness of these stories is usually questionable. Among his oft-repeated claims about his origins:
- He came from the Planet of Soy on a mission to spread the good news of Kikkoman shoyu.
- He was spawned by the unholy union of David Bowie and a striped polecat. His age alone makes this particular claim entirely impossible, not to mention factors of genetics.
- He was abandoned as a child, and found in a basket on the field of Sekigahara. By wolves, who then raised him by stealing canned peaches. Remarkably, this is often seen as the most feasible of Kyowa's stories.
- He was found wandering the sewers of London as a small child, unable to say anything other than "Powerful big rats, gentlemen." This story suffers in the telling, as Kyowa is wholly incapable of a convincing London accent.
- He is, in fact, just a figment of your imagination, but since you're lying to yourself so effectively, you won't ever realize it.
There are many others besides, but they get more and more implausible. (Yes, they do get more implausible than the polecat theory). There are a handful of people who know where Kyowa actually comes from. His story about Sekigahara has at least a grain of truth to it, though it is unlikely he was found and raised by wolves.
